REVEALED: SAY GOODBYE TO THE 'TRENDSETTERS'!

According to one intelligence official document dated 5th June 2013 , "...they are uneducated, immature and therefore don't pose any threat to the national security." That was two months ago! On 18th June 2013, CCK presented its own findings on the so-called "Trendsetters" to the NSIS. After analysis of the CCK's report, the initial report that talked of shallow-minded individuals was disregarded, and the new report adopted for further analysis and investigations. So, who are these individuals? What did the CCK report say? We have these answers and more in the next few paragraphs. [NOTE: We have decided to use their twitter handles only.]

@C_NyakundiH and @xtiandela are the main players, and the targets for that case. According to the initial report by NSIS, @ThisisCHITO is a naive and cold character and hence not a key player in the "group". For starters, Nyakundi came to the limelight last year through blogger Denis Itumbi , in the now infamous #LetNyakundiTweet. This was after he had been suspended from Meru University college. Nyakundi opened his twitter account on November 21, 2012.

Xtiandela used a 'crowd-pull effect' strategy to gain followers. In his strategy, he opened his account on March 22, 2013, bought foreign followers and then 'psychology' worked for him! Psychology? Yes! Crowd-Pull Effect is where a follower follows a user just because he has the numbers! That aside, let's now get back to our topic.

WHY WAS THE CCK'S REPORT ADOPTED?
According to the CCK, the Trendsetters have formed a Cartel, which now runs twitter in Kenya. They do the following, among others; [NOTE: These are excerpts of the report]
1.Cyber Bullying; Nyakundi has been mentioned a record 389 times in this.
2.Incitement; the trendsetters are well-known to incite followers and other users through their Trending Topics.
3. Libel; They have been paid on several occasions by individuals and business competitors to ruin their rivals' images; Larry Madowo, Safaricom and others.
4. Tarnishing Kenya's Diplomatic relations; this is where the trendsetters have initiated topics to attack other nations. The updated report singles out Nigeria and Uganda.
5. Pornography; they have led and encouraged the spread of pornographic materials.
6. ...and many others.

According to our source, a senior official at CCK had proposed to have Twitter Inc. suspend its presence in Kenya from December 31, 2013! This was however rejected by the NSIS who indicated that this is likely to spark protests both locally and internationally. Therefore, the only option is to suspend (indefinitely) the main culprits. On Thursday last week, Denis Itumbi supported the Intelligence Service move when the report was presented in his department at statehouse!

WHAT ABOUT SOMAWARDS?
The main sponsors, OLX just played a puppet of CCK and NSIS! The idea was to downplay the role and influence of  the so-called trendsetters, in the name of encouraging and promoting proper use of social media.

WHO PROVOKED THE CCK TO CARRY OUT INVESTIGATIONS ON THE TRENDSETTERS?
It is simple: their own careless tweets and topics, and formal protests by Larry Madowo, Bitange Ndemo, Bob Collymore, and Robert Alai!

WHEN ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO GO OFFLINE?
If Twitter Inc and the Security Agencies are to comply with the recommendations, it is as soon as tomorrow, but not later than September 30,2013.

ARE THE CCK AND NSIS JUSTIFIED TO DO THIS?
In my own opinion, the trendsetters have ruined twitter in Kenya by engaging and promoting social vices! If I were to be asked, let the CCK ISSUE A CEASE AND DESIST WARNING to these guys and let them stay!
